Can I autosize my TextBox in SSRS? RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I have my TextBox in SSRS with my Text in it. Rather than dragging the bottom of it up and guessing where it should end, is there any easy way in SSRS and Design mode and Microsoft Visual Studio to autosize my TextBox based on its text contents?

    I'll continue to guess rather than playing with code..it just seems as thought here should be a way to automatically toggle the size of the TextBox in Design mode based on its contents.

    Thanks for your review and am hopeful for a reply.

  • Hi ,

    To Allow a Text Box to Grow or Shrink

    1. Right-click the text box and click Text Box Properties.

    2. Click the General tab.

      • To allow the text box to expand vertically based on its contents, select Allow height to increase.

      • To allow the text box to shrink based on its contents, select Allow height to decrease.

    OR

    Select Textbox -> press F4(Properties) -> CanGrow to True and CanShirnk to True

    Thanks

  • I have those checked but if my physical Text Box is too small, not tall enough, or too tall based on its actual text contents, the guidelines of the TextBox and its physical appearance within Design mode is NOT adjusting. The text looks fine in the Preview, but the actual TextBox itself in Design mode isn't changed accordingly and for programmer's purpose, I'd like the TextBox to be as long as its contents in order for everything to be seen.

  • The textbox can be set to grow or shrink vertically but not horizontally.

  • But that's my point. I have its General properties checked to Allow height to increase and decrease both checked. And I also have its physical Properties CanGrow and CanShrink set to True but its height in Design Mode within Microsoft Visual Studio Premium 2013 does not seem to be adjusting the actual physical height of the TextBox.

  • but its height in Design Mode within Microsoft Visual Studio Premium 2013 does not seem to be adjusting the actual physical height of the TextBox.

    As you mentioned you are achieving this in design time just to clear above properties will work at run time .

    To see this in action you have to preview a report.

    and as Jason A Long mentioned above size will increase vertically not horizontally.

    Thanks

  • Soooo it's not possible to see this in Design mode then? Yuck! I hate having to adjust my guidelines in Design mode but I think it's important for it to be seen in its entirety in Design mode. Just cleaner that way.

  • To deal with design mode you can set the height and width of textbox.

    Click on Textbox -> F4 -> Size -> Height/ Width

    You can take help from below link;
