Is there one attribute /field in email item a correlation between sending email and receiving email? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    One of our requirement,

A user is sender who did send one email to B,

B user is receiver who did receive the email from A.

We would like to identify whether B user really viewed the email from A or not? Is there any one email attribute a correlation between A sent email and B received email  in EWS API or  Exchange protocol?  if there is , once A user send out one email to B, based one the correlation attribute /field , so we could to quickly locate if B user received it in mailbox   as well as  to further check whether B user viewed the email or not.

    Best Regards

    Nate Wu

  • Hello!

May be this trigger behaviour from Mailbox Audit Logging will help you, but I'm not sure now.

    'Update'
    Item's properties are updated.

    https://www.ultimatewindowssecurity.com/exchange/mailboxaudit/configure.aspx
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/exchange/mailboxes/Set-Mailbox?view=exchange-ps

So for test - you have to turn on the Mailbox Audit for mailbox B, turn it on for -AuditOwner with Update item included.

And then use Search-MailboxAudit -showdetails cmdlet for mailbox B.

  • Internet MessageId https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/client-developer/web-service-reference/internetmessageid would be the Message property to use. You can use that to search with in EWS and also you can use it in Message Tracking which is a better way to work if a user actually received a particular Message you can then use EWS to see if was moved or deleted.

    Cheers
