Expire items from 2010 Archive mailbox RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

Is it possible to set up a policy on archive mailboxes to delete items over a certain age from the archive? Or is there any other way to manage the size of the archive?

    Thanks

  • Hi Steve

You cannot have a  retention policy only for  archive mailbox.

Please see the below example for better understanding

Lets say if you want to create RPT for  inbox on primary mailbox  --> move to archive after 3 months

and then permanent delete from archive mailbox after 365 days .

Below are the steps you would need to follow

You would need to apply two policies like that to primary mailbox inbox

RPT set for 90days-- inbox -->for move to archive mailbox

RPT set for 365days in Primary inbox - inbox -->  for permanent delete from archive

  • Hi Steve

You cannot have a different retention policy for primary and archive mailbox. The policy applied to the primary mailbox also applies to the archive mailbox. There are two most common scenarios where policy which is applied to the primary mailbox applies to archive mailbox are.

Please refer below article with steps which has clear information

  • Thanks Sathish

So just to get it clear - I am early stage looking at customer requirements and don't have a test rig yet, so please bear with me.

If I wanted to apply a retention policy to a folder in the Archive mailbox only, the folder could not have the same name as one in the primary mailbox (e.g. Inbox)?

    Is that right?

    Thanks

    Steve
