    Does SQL server 2008 supports arbitrary substring search with fulltext ?

  • Unfortunately not. This is planned for the next version of SQL Server.

    You can do suffix searches like this

    select * from tablename where contains(*,'abc*')

    This will return all rows which contain full-text indexed content where words begin with the letter sequence abc
