Visual Studio 2008 solution file with windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

last week I got a new machine with windows 7, in my company all other developer machins are win XP.
so I am the first one who tries to develop in the company on windows 7.
after installing all the necessary things, I tried open our solution, the solution has some .net class library projects and a web site. the problem I encountered is:
visual studio was not able to open the correct web site, meanning: IIS was pointing to the web site but visual studio opened as web site the parent folder of the web site.
I have tried to figure out what is the problem and this is what I did: I manually removed the web site from the solution in visual studio, then I added it again pointing to the correct location, this worked fine but then I had to build all the refrences on my own, so this is not a good solution, then I opened the solution file with notepad and I saw this: that the web site is called "oblicore" (my company name) instead of "localhost" as was written in the original solution file.
so I simply undo all my changes and then manually changed the solution file like this: every occurance of "localhost" was changed with "oblicore", this solved everything and after openning the solution in visuam studio it was fine,
    my questions are:
1.why we have in windows 7 another behaviour? can it be solved by changing the IIS configuration?
    2. how can I solve it, since now if I check in my solution I am going to ruin it for all the win XP users.

    Thanks

    Ron

  • Hi,

    thanks for the reply,

I think this post is related to here, since this is a problem in Visual studio and not in ASP.NET, Visual studio from some reason does not open the correct web site(as writen in the sln file)

I will post it in ASP.NET forum as well

    10x

  • Hi Ron,

    Thank you for your reply.

ASP.NET Forums has a forum called Installation and Setup. Since your issue focus on ASP.NET development, I think that you will get more useful help on ASP.NET forums.

The original forum is Visual Studio Setup and Installation. It is related to installation. If you cannot install Visual Studio on Windows 7, I'm willing to help you on that. However, I'm not familiar with ASP.NET. Sorry for that.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,
