.net 2 sp1 questions RRS feed

  • Question

  • hi,
Some feature in our product seems to require .net 2 sp1 (I posted a question on another forum to make sure).
Not all of the machines we've inspected contain this update, whereas all of them did contain .net 2 and 3 runtime, for example.

Did Microsoft push this update as an auto update? Is there a kb for that? If not, is it planned to be pushed to machines?
What about Windows Vista sp1 and Windows XP sp3, do they include this update?
Was it built in to Windows XP / Vista installation at some time?

I'm asking because it would be very cumbersome for organizations who get our product to manually install this update on every client machine.

As far as I know, .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0 are shipped with Windows Vista.   And now Windows Vista SP1 carries .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 and .NET Framework 3.0 SP1 to us.   We could see the .NET Framework 2.0 update from 2.0.50727.312 to 2.0.50727.1424.   For additional information, please check this article on MSDN Blogs.

While, in Windows XP SP3, no new .NET Framework update is shipped with.   However, if we install .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0 in Windows XP machine, we could update to .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 and 3.0 SP1 via Windows Update.    For detail, please check this MSDN forum thread.

Besides, you know .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 and 3.0 SP1 are included in .NET Framework 3.5.   Also, .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 has been released, and it contains .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.0 SP2.   We could download .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 here.

Any more questions, please just let me know.

    Best Regards,
