Problems with Existing PowerPivot files on a Specific Computer RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I have a strange issue with this one computer using PowerPivot (SQL Server 2012).

Problem: You can open Excel to a new document, open the PowerPivot window, add data sources, create relationships and setup a pivot table and everything works fine. Save the workbook, close Excel, and reopen the workbook, and the Field List window doesn't work. It's there, just doesn't seem to render properly. Also, Excel thrashes the CPU. Did this multiple times with multiple data sources.

Secondary problem: Install PowerPivot and Open Excel, and the PowerPivot tab shows up on the task bar. Disable the PowerPivot add-in, close Excel, reopen Excel, and you can't re-enable the PowerPivot add-in. You have to uninstall and resinstall PP. The check won't stick. No error messages, and nothing in the event logs of the PC.

Specs: Windows XP SP3 32 Bit. Excel 14.0.6123.5001 32 Bit. PowerPivot SQL Server 2012. 3 GB of RAM, but I don't see how that is relevant since we are only pulling in about 300 rows.

History: PP for SQL Server 2008 R2 was installed. Ran the 2012 setup over the top. Uninstalled everything. Re installed 2008 R2 then uninstalled. Reinstalled 2012. Problem still exists. Really, really strange.

Anybody have some feedback on this one?
