BSOD on setup with USB drive

    Question

  • I am trying to install Windows 8 in a dual boot setup with a USB drive. I am getting the BSOD( the :( one) after the initial loading of files. I have tried:

    1. Re-downloading the iso and making it bootable. It still failed.
    2. Used Windows 7 DVD/USB Download tool to make the USB.
    3. Made the USB with diskpart/xcopy method and failed.
    4. Formatted the USB drive with NTFS and FAT32. Failed both.
    5. Tried installing on 2 other laptops. Failed.

Any solutions? I am getting the same BSOD in all the above cases.

  • Solved! I used another USB drive and it worked. There may be some problem with my USB drive1

  • Yeah, download the ISO and run it directly using poweriso. This way, you don't need to burn a CD / DVD and you will be able to install windows8 over your current partition, with the ability to restore windows7. It's not a double boot but you can Always reverse if you don't like windows8.
