Speed up driver deployment step RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.

I am making small changes in a KMDF device driver and want to speed up the turn around time for updating the machine with the driver. Right now the environment is running installation tests, etc. when I update the driver using the kernel debugger.

Is there a way to speed this process up? I am using Visual Studio 2013 RC.

    Thanks,

    Brian

  • If you only want to deploy (without debugging), you can deploy without debugging from the VS menu: "Build" --> "Deploy Solution". "Start without debugging" should also work. Those two options should be little bit faster than deploying with the debugger, though not by much.

From the deployment property menu, you can also disable "Remove previous driver versions before deployment", though it is necessary in most cases.

Other than that, there are no ways to speed this process up that I know of. Most of the steps that are done during deployment are necessary to ensure that deployment is successful.
