Looking for guides how to get list of "Distribution Lists" from GAL using LDAP RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I need to get the name of of all "Distribution Lists" from GAL by using LDAP.

The environment consist of an AD forest with many child domains. How do I find the AD domain that includes the list of "Distribution Lists"? and what LDAP path and query can extract that list?

A link to an online article would be a great help. I know how to LDAP query AD, but I don't know how exchange stores the "Distribution List" definition inside the AD.

    Thank you,

Answers

  • A distribution list in Exchange is a Mail Enabled Group in Active directory it could be a Mail enabled Security Group or Distribution group so just using a filter like

    (&(objectCategory=Group)(proxyAddresses=*))

Should capture all groups that are mail enabled.

    Cheers
