VSTO Addin for Word and SAP use of Word as texteditor RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I have created a VSTO Addin for Word which works without any problems except this one.

It is created in Visual Studio 2010 on .NET Framework 4 Client Profile.

At the customer, they are using SAP finacial system, and in some of the forms the user can edit text.
Now, in SAP they have decieded that Word is a great texteditor. Let's use that.

Problem is that when the user clicks in the textedit area, Word is started, and this triggers multiple Word document windows when my Addin is activated, and just one document window when my Addin is disabled.

What is it in my Addin that makes this happen? I have no eventhandled code for NewDocument, only one for DocumentOpen which does some tasks with metadata and so on. This eventhandler is created manually upon initiation in ThisAddin designer code, since the builtin handler in Word 2010 is unable to catch the first document opened.

Can I prevent this behavior of multiple windows in some way?

    Thanks in advance

  • Hello Peter,

Are you able to reproduce the issue with a newly created empty add-in?

Do you have any other add-ins installed for Word?
