  • Ok so what is the issue now, did you checked from sql server configuration manager that SQL Server services are started or not. If services are their go ahead and start it. Also check from services console if you cannot locate services in configuration manager.

  • You need to uninstall SSMS and install it again. Go to add remove program locate SQL Server 2012 and click on uninstall then ONLY select management tools to uninstall the SSMS. I believe due to failed installation SSMS is not installed correctly

  • Tools were installed correctly, infact the DB components failed during RTM.

However, the logs of individual components mentioned the components were installed successfully.

And after applying SP3 + security update, we were able to connect to SQL instance.

    posted this message earlier --

  • Ensure the installation account has proper rights to start and stop the services and on db services as well.

  • Hi Sandesh,

RTM installation itself failed and detail.txt shows something as below:

However, I was able to successfully apply SP3 and Security update on the same later. As this is not clean installation, we need to investigate further.

  • The issue is resolved now after re-installing SQL and configuring SQL Server Database Engine to run under NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE during setup in Server Configuration screen.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks Shashank.

Logs for Management tools showed successful installation though and I was able to connect to the SQL Instance and perform other tasks except the Instance Property page was throwing error.

Infact, SQL Installation failed even when Local System was used during setup in configuration. So, tried using NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE as a workaround and it worked :-)
