Report Viewer Control (WinForms) and SQL Express RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm interested in using SQL Server Reporting for a Windows Forms application and I understand it is possible to render the reports from SQL Server Express locally (without Reporting Services) using the Report Viewer control.

I am concerned with this approach because the end user UI is quite basic as reports cannot incorporate custom controls like the web based viewer?  Does anyone have any input on this where they have extended and improved the design of the reports?  Any caveats or ideas are welcome!

The other point I wanted to ask was where is the Report Viewer Winforms control going and reporting locally with SQL Express?  What I'm looking for is an understanding if this is a feature that will extend and grow and if so how?  Currently I have the restriction of only being able to use SQL Server Express 2005 but having an idea of the roadmap would be useful.

    Thanks

    John
