Will Windows 8 apps kill off desktop Windows ?

    General discussion

  • I seem to be having more and more virus etc type problems on my desktop.

The latest problem is a virus locking all the files on a computer then holding the user to ransom.

I can see there is a fundamental problem with Windows apps in that they are too open to cause havoc if a programmer so chooses.

In the light of a tied down OS like Windows apps could this see the end of the desktop app ?

I can see that apps have a little way to go to be fully useful but it is early days yet.

Perhaps this is why MS have moved on to apps?
