  • Hi elesh,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

All software you have showed can be installed into Win8 OS. Please also pay attention the versions of this software match the version of OS (32/64bit).

    Hope this helps.

  • The Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant identifies VS2010 as incompatible...

  • Hello, osterworks.

To be honest, I don't know why that is.

I have two Win 8 systems here, one with VS 2010 Ultimate and all VS 2010 Express products on it, and a second with VS 2010 Premium and all VS 2010 Express products on it. Both systems seem fine and the VS 2010 products are working OK for me. I can't claim I've tested every VS 2010 project type and feature, but I've discovered no issues in routine use.

  • Hello, Elesh.

I asked the Visual Studio team (through MS Connect) about the compatibility issue. It turns out that the issue is with test tools in certain scenarios. and there is a patch for that:

My question on this subject in MS Connect that you may want to read before continuing:

    https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/769074/visual-studio-2010-incompatible-with-windows-8

Note that the response includes a link to this GDR, which addresses the test tools issue:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2736182?wa=wsignin1.0

Here is a quote of the response:

"Hi there - VS 2010 does indeed have an incompatibility with Win8 - The scenario for the incompatibility was around the test tools so in general VS 2010 will run after install on Win8 - This issue was addressed in this GDR (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2736182).
Thanks - Tony Goodhew, Program Manager, VS Pro"

So, the answer is that you can install VS 2010 on Windows 8. Then you should apply the GDR.
