How do I mix standard versions, specifically the enveloping? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are developing and testing mapping for Amazon Vendor Canada, and all X12 EDI documents are standard version 004010 except for their 856 ASN which is 005010. All documents will be coming from the same EDI ID and sent from the same EDI ID.

We are using 004010 XSLT maps, and for the ASN, we are using a 005010 XSLT map.

The resulting EDI files are compliant with the associated standards, however the enveloping is not correct--all are 004010, including the ASN.

I tried creating a separate agreement for only the 856, however (understandably) it won't let me create two agreements with the same Identifiers.

I investigated the "Envelopes" screen in the Party's "Transaction Set Settings" in the Agreement, but I'm not sure how to fill in the "Transaction Type", "Version/Release" and "Target Namespace" sections--documentation is thin on this.

    Suggestions?

  • If you are referring to ISA12, you don't actually have a problem.  ISA12 is the Interchange (ISA/IEA Segments) Version number only.  It does not apply to any contained Groups.  Meaning, ISA12 and GS08 can be different.

Here's the thing, if the partner can't accept this, then they're the ones who aren't X12 compliant.

Have you tried sending with a 4010 Envelope for everything?  Do they error?

  • Thank you for the insights.

I changed the envelopes on the Transaction Sets to be 004010 for all except 856 which I set to 005010. I left the ISA enveloping at 004010.

I sent the files to Amazon, and they "Passed" without issue.
