Re_target Windows Store app from 8.1 to 8.0 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I have just published my first app “MyDailyHandicap” to the Store in Windows8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 using VS Express 2013.

    1)  Is it possible to develop apps using VS Express 2013 for Windows in both 8.1 and 8.0 and lower versions.

    2)  If not; how can I develop apps for the Store in lower versions of Windows [both Phone and Windows].

    Thanks

  • Wendel - you can use VS2012 to write Windows 8.0 apps. VS2013 does not support this with new apps.

Why do you want to write Windows 8.0 apps?

NOTE: If I ask for code, please provide something that I can drop directly into a project and run (including XAML), or an actual application project. I'm trying to help a lot of people, so I don't have time to figure out weird snippets with undefined objects and unknown namespaces.

  • There is no windows store on  windows 7. You can create a windows app and distribute it with installer to set it up on there computer.

  • Hi Matt

Thanks for your prompt response.  I was hoping to be able to write apps for lower versions as most users are unable to download my app. They only have Windows 8.0 or lower versions.

Can I use my current PC running on 8.1 Pro, or do I have to find another PC with 8.0.

    Thanks again. Regards

    Wendel

  • Thanks Ken

I was able to download VS Express 2012 ok. It has not affected my VS Express 2013.

I found that very few people are able to download my 8.1 app from the store. They do not have Windows 8.1.

Most are still using Windows 7 with a few on 8.0.

Is there software out there for developing software for Windows 7 [both phone and windows].

    Cheers

  • Thanks Ken

That makes it all a bit clearer for me.

Looks like I'll have to develop apps in both 2012 [for 8.0] and 2013 [for 8.1].

    Cheers
