Unable to create new project from template using PSI RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I have project server 2007 SP 2 and SQL server 2005 SP4 env.

I am developing a custom application to integrate project server with some thrid party application.

As a part of requirement I am creating new project from enterprise template using PSI.

Here I am getting issue whenever I am creating new project from enterprise template getting following exception:

Error is: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: ProjectServerError(s) LastError=ProjectResourceNotFound Instructions: Pass this into PSClientError constructor to access all error information
       at Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.WebService.Project.CreateProjectFromTemplate(Guid templateUid, String projectName)==============================PSCLientError Output:ProjectResourceNotFound.

So here I am clue less I have tried diff-2 templates with enterprise resource and without any enterprise resource in the team of template but again and again getting same isssue.

So let me know is there any precaution I need to take before creating project from ent template using PSI or what mistake I would probably doing while creating project?

    Thanks !!!

  • Hi There,

There is a hot fix for the issue:
You cannot create a project from a template by using the Project Server Interface (PSI) if the project has custom fields and assignments that have unassigned resources in Project Server 2007.

You may try to create a new template an see if that works. In a similar answer:

  • Thanks Amit for your response,

From the link I got to know that hotfix is of Apr 2008 an we are already patched to Dec 09 CU, so I think this will include that hotfix as well.

I have tried with diffrent templates even with templates which have only one task with resource assigned to it and without any team as well. But no success. Any Idea here what could I have been missing here?

Can you please elaborate your following statement "You cannot create a project from a template by using the Project Server Interface (PSI) if the project has custom fields and assignments that have unassigned resources in Project Server 2007."

    Thanks !!!

  • Hi there,

This was the issue which is fixed in Apr 2008 hotfix. "You cannot create a project from a template by using the Project Server Interface (PSI) if the project has custom fields and assignments that have unassigned resources in Project Server 2007." I am not sure if that was included in Dec 09 CU. May be you can check the KB950816 in installed updates from Control panel.

Could you please recheck your project template & see if there is any resource? Try creating a simple template with few task & no resource/assignments. Run your PSI code to see if that works. By the error, it shows the Resource not found when you are creating the project from template.

  • Thanks Amit,

I have already tried with new template which has only single task with no team hence no assignment but still it is throwing error don't no know.

Is there may be chance of using custom ent calendars, fields etc which is causing this issue.

And about the patch will update you shorlty.

    Thanks again for your support.
