Getting started with Analysis Services

Question
-
Afternoon all,
I'm breaking into the world of SQL Server Analysis Services for the first time and was wondering if anyone here could point me in the way of some resource to help me along the way, including the jargon and the service terminology as well as the actual technical "how to articles.
One thing I'd like to begin with is asking whether it is possible to import the contents of a SQL Server database (2008 R2) and if so, what can be done with them.
Any comments/questions are welcome.

Hi Steven,
You can start gaining knowledge immediately over here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb522607.aspx
also I suggest you install the Adventure Works demo you can find on codeplex:
http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/releases/view/45907
to install the AS database follow this:
http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Installing%20Analysis%20Services%20Database
have fun,
Cees

I echo Cees's recommendation about installing the Adventure Works samples on codeplex. These samples are very substantial, and I've used these samples as a baseline for delivering commercial solutions.
I also recommend Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services Step by Step; - http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Server-2008-Analysis-Services/dp/0735626200/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1278622786&sr=1-2
There are many further samples here that build on the Adventure Works samples.
I also recommend www.learndevnow.com there are many hours of quality tutorials here including Analysis Services 2008. I generally find that there is a added dimension of learning by simply watching somebody point and click.
I hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Kieran.

Both suggestions are very worthwhile and have given me a lot of material to use. Many thanks for these.
