Webmatrix 2 : Sync Local Database with Published Database RRS feed

    I work with Webmatrix 2 and the starter site.

    I have a working/published site that is simply a copy of the local machine development site.  The database of the local site is basically test data where soon the published site will contain production data from user entering their particular data.  The IDE provides a way (a one way street)  to overlay the published .sdf with the local .sdf.  That works great during development where the database structure and test data change every day or so.

    Once production is underway, on the published site, is their a way sync the production data back into the local machine?

    Thanks

    Click on the remote tab, then download, then select the db to download.

    Thanks for the help, "I can't see the forest for the trees".

    IDE Publish uploads all the Local files to the folders on the published server.

    IDE Remote tab | Download downloads all the published files back to the Local folders.

    To test I browsed to the published site and made one text character change in a table, saved the change and closed the browser.

    Opened Webmatrix, Opened the local site, clicked the Remote tab on the IDE.

    Waited for it to find the files.

    Unchecked everything but the .sdf (database).

    Clicked continue and waited for the file download to complete.

    Opened the database via the Database workspace.

    Opened the appropriate table and confirmed the one character change.

    To answer your next question....  what do you do when the db needs to change on the live site?

    download the latest db from the live site as per my previous post;

    place a file called app_offline.htm in the root of the site and add some verbage that says the site is down, publish to live site;

    make the changes to the db;

    test;

    delete app_offline from the live site
