Web Apps & SQL Elastic Pool Migration To Another Subscription RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Team,

We're looking forward to perform subscription migration for Web Apps & SQL DB Elastic Pools, we know that both are supported.

Please, if you could assist us with the pre-requisites & steps to follow (like making sure all app services resources must be moved together) in order to perform the migration.

    Regards,
    Gaurav N.

  • DB Elastic Pools:
Will selecting DB server for migration will result into automatic migration pool & all its databases too?

    Web Apps:
Making sure App service plan & App service are in the same resource group before initiating migration?

do we need to consider any other pre-requisites.

    Thank You.

  • There is some limitation which you need to take care while moving App Service resources to a different subscription. If your web app uses an App Service Certificate, see App Service Certificate limitations. There are some important steps to do before moving a resource.

Also Ensure that Database and server must be in the same resource group because when you move a SQL server, all its databases are also moved.

To move resource to different subscription you can follow below steps.

Go to your resource group>click on move> Click on other subscription> select subscription you want to transfer > click ok.

  • Hi Sneha,

    Thanks a lot.
I've seen the app service certificate limitation & will follow the steps for proper migration (avoiding failure) steps.

So, moving SQL server pertaining elastic pools is equivalent to migrating SQL server pertaining individual databases right? no additional parameters to keep in mind while migrating the same other than making sure all the databases within the pool (& pool itself) is belonging to the same RG as the SQL DB Server.

    Regards,
    Gaurav N.

  • Thanks for the reply. Yes, moving SQL server pertaining elastic pools is equivalent to migrating SQL server pertaining individual databases. Let me know if there are still any additional issues, we can help with.
