Connection Strings in RDLC File RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    I am developing a winforms app with VS2008 and have created numerous RDLC layouts.  I use the dataset table adapter fill method to get my data from SQL Server stored procedures.   The table adaptor properties the show database connection is derived from MySetttings, i.e. the app.config file.

    When I open the RDLC file, the connectionstring is out in the open including password like the following:

    <ConnectionProperties>
            <DataProvider>SQL</DataProvider>
            <ConnectString>Data Source=....</ConnectString>
          </ConnectionProperties>

    Why does this happen?

    Can I prevent VS2008 from storing a fully referenced connection string in the RDLC file?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hello out there,

    What is the best way to avoid connection strings (including passwords) in the Report layout RDLC file. Should I open up the
    RDLC xml file and manually removed  them.

    Is there something wrong with my design that caused the CS to be included in the RDLC file?

    Please advise.

    Thanks
