  • Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 have reached the end of support from Microsoft as of January 14, 2020. Running an in-place upgrade on Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 will allow upgrading to newer versions of Windows Server. Let's see what the process looks like to run a Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 in-place upgrade to Windows Server 2019.

  • Hi Oleg,

Thanks for the links so i understand that i can do OS inplace upgrade for the below server roles.

DNS Server,DHCP server, File servers, IIS Servers.

For AD and Exchange i have to build the new one and migrate them.

For other applications i need to check with the respective vendors whether their application supports OS In-place Upgrades of windows servers orlese i need to install the new OS and reinstall the application again.

    Appreciate your reply !!

    Regards,

    Arif

  • Sometime IIS Server upgraded in-place from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2, it's 50/50.

File Server we was in-place upgrade, but we disconnect storage before upgrade and connect after update.  I recommend install new and use robocopy tools for move data.

DHCP can support migrate DHCP DB from old server to new server. DHCP Server Migration: Migrating the DHCP Server Role or How to Migrate DHCP Server to Windows Server 2016/2019?

DNS support support migrate DNS record. Checklist: Migrate a DNS Server

PS 8 years ago, I was migrate Windows 2003/2008/novel/lotus to Windows 2012 and Exchange 2010. You need create plan migration by service. Maybe you need more resources/engineers and time 3-6-12 month for 100+ servers with 1000+ users
