[winrt] Loading bitmaps only on the main thread, and async. RRS feed

  • I apologize if this is the wrong forum , but I just don't see any Windows Runtime forums.

    Loading bitmaps in winrt can only happen on the main thread, and async.

    I just want to understand why you would impose such a restriction. It's simply hurting developing efficient apps. 

    And, is there any light at the end of the tunnel - will this change in the future?

  • Which approaches did you try? Show some code that does not work.

  • It depends on what you mean by load.

    If you mean read a bitmap from a file then there is no such restriction and might be more efficient in a worker thread.

    If you mean changing the window to put a bitmap into it then it is a restriction of Windows and you must assume it will never change (because it will not). Just accept it as how things work. When you stop fighting it then you will learn it is not a problem, you can easily adapt to the restriction.
