Answers

  • I was able to find the issue, a software firewall was preventing the waagent from starting up correctly, only needed to disable the software firewall for the initial startup for everything to function correctly.

  • HI Jason

Could you please let us know the error you see in the jobs tab? Also is the VM on Premium LRS storage?

Also, could you please let us know the Linux agent version you are using: You can use the following command to get the agent version information:

    waagent –version

If the agent version is less than 2.12/2.13, please follow these steps to update the agent:

    1. Backup the old wala, “mv /var/lib/waagent /var/lib/waagent.backup”

    2. download the new agent from https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Azure/WALinuxAgent/2.0/waagent,

      1. cd /usr/sbin

      2. wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Azure/WALinuxAgent/2.0/waagent

    3. restart the wala service “service walinuxagent restart”

  • Agent is latest version 2.13

Just the standard OS disk (30 GB) + 2 standard data disks (50 GB each)

Error Details: Could not communicate with the VM agent for snapshot status. Snapshot VM sub task timed out.

Does VM agent need any specific port open?

  • Could you please email us: azbkup-vmpreview@microsoft.com  with the following verbose logs:

    /var/lib/waagent/*.xml

    /var/log/waagent.log

    /var/log/azure/*

How to get the verbose log of wala.

    Edit the /etc/waagent.conf

    Change the line:

    # Enable verbose logging (y|n)

    Logs.Verbose=n  to Logs.Verbose=y

  • the wala is put under /usr/sbin/waagent.

the steps to backup old wala should be
    mv /usr/sbin/waagent /usr/sbin/waagent.backup

    and then cd /usr/sbin

    wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Azure/WALinuxAgent/WALinuxAgent-2.0.13/waagent

    and then chmod +x waagent

    and then service walinuxagent restart.

i think you need to restore the /usr/lib/waagent folder using your /usr/lib/waagent.backup.

and try to restart the walinuxagent. and then try again. thanks.
