Cross browser testing RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dears,

I need to test a web application using multiple browsers (IE7, Firefox, etc) using the test manager.

for the moment i have created some test cases in test manager and was able to test only with IE7, but i need to do the same test using Firefox.

how can i achieve it using Microsoft Test Manager 2010?

    thanks in advance,

  • Hi Ammar,

You can assigned different configuration variable for the IE7, Fire Fox etc and assigned it to your rest plan or test case. It will create multiple copies of your same test case and will allow you to execute separately, also you will able to maintain separate results for you each run.

For more information please refer http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd286654.aspx

  • Hii Sarveshk,

thanks a lot for your reply and for the link. :)

I already have configurations to test in IE8 and Firefox. I already ran and recorded the test scenario using Firfox. but when the time comes to run the test, it opens in IE and runs. how can i avoid this?

    any advice appreciated.

    thanks a lot,

  • Hi,

You can use the play -> 'change browser for playback' option that is available in Feature Pack 2 - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg269474.aspx

  • The Test Manager only supports the Firefox Mozilla version 3.5 and 3.6.

the above link (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg269474.aspx) says :

    Testing features:

    • Playback tests using the Mozilla Firefox browser. You can use Windows Internet Explorer 7 (or later versions) to record UI actions on a website or a Web-based application and then play back the tests using the Mozilla Firefox browser version 3.5 and 3.6.
