VS2017: Licence download

    Question

  • Hi,

I'm using VS2015 EE and installed VS2017 EE. There is a MSDN subscription associated with my Microsoft account and in VS2015 EE the license is correct. In VS2017 EE it keeps saying Trial version. I used the same offline layout as a colleague with the same setup. On his computer VS 2017 EE downloaded the license.

    What have I tried:

    - I logged out of VS 2017 EE and back in again

    - I went through a repair process

Still the same error. How can I force VS 2017 EE to download the license?

    Kind regards,

    Sascha

  • Go to the File > Account Settings window and enter the email of the MSDN Subscription. There is also a "Check for an updated license" link.

  • Hi Sascha,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

    >> In VS2017 EE it keeps saying Trial version.

Could you please share the screenshot of this windows or provide the detail information in here?

Please run the VS 2017 as administrator and sign in with your Microsoft account, then click the ‘Check for an updated license’ like Carlos said.

    >> I used the same offline layout as a colleague with the same setup. On his computer VS 2017 EE downloaded the license.

Does both of your Microsoft accounts are associated to the same VS subscription account? If not, please make sure your subscription has the access to use the VS 2017 EE, you can go to MSDN Subscriptions to sign in with your account and click ‘My Account’ to confirm. If your subscription account have the right to use the VS 2017 product, you can also try to get a product key for VS 2017 under ‘My Product Keys’ and unlock it.

    Best regards,

    Sara

  • Hi!

    Screenshot from VS2017:

    Screenshot VS2017

No "Check for updated license" link

    Screenshot of Portal:

    Screenshot

Tried starting with "Run as Administrator", no change.

I do use 2FA on my account ( my colleague does not ) but as the app on my phone prompts to approve this should not a problem. And I can not use an application password...

    Kind regards,

    Sascha

  • Hi Sascha,

    Thank you for your update.

From your shared screenshot, I found the status of your subscription account is 'Migrated' and it also redirect to access my.visualstudio.com. Please have a try with it and it is better to confirm the validation of yours subscription, since our forum is to discuss Visual Studio WPF/SL Designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System, and Visual Studio Editor, you can click Help from your screenshot or redirect to this: https://www.visualstudio.com/subscriptions/support/, click Contact Us and Account, Subscription and Billing Support, then you can directly call the corresponding account specialist to verify your subscription account, in case it caused this issue, thank you for your understanding.

for me it prints out "Visual Studio Development  >  Visual Studio General Questions", so I thought this forum is the best match.

I attach a screenshot from my.visualstudio.com and will open a request at https://www.visualstudio.com/subscriptions/support/ linking to this thread so they can see the infos here

  • Hi Sascha,

Thank you for your update information. If you have any confirmation information from the subscription support center, could you please share it in here? It will help other community members who have the same issue and know the detail information, thanks.

Meanwhile, since you colleague also installed the same VS 2017 version as yours, have you tried to sign in your subscription account on your colleague computer, if you get the same result on my computer, which means this issue is more relates to your account. If it is successful to download a license not the trail one, we should focus on your computer, VS and network connection...

    Best regards,

    Sara

  • Hi,

I headed over there and it seems I have to buy a new support plan as a partner to get support?

    Kind regards,
