    Can any one guide on this forum as to what are the advantages and disadvantages of the VSTO based application, as compared to excel VBA based ? and also in general...

    From the highest level point of view, VBA is for automating the host application on the local machine. But the add-ins are designed to be deployed on multiple PCs.

    If you develop a managed add-in (for example, VSTO) you can use features provided by the .Net framework.
