2 Computers & Invalid table links RRS feed

  • Question

  • We use an Access Database in Access 2013  on 2 different computers.  When we use it on only one computer we have no problems.  But every time, on the first time, we open it on the other computer we get an error message.  The error message is:

There are 12 invalid table links!

Do you want to Re-Link the tables?"

    Yes No

When we answer Yes we have no problems.  But we get this message every time we go to the other computer.

    Any suggestions?

  • Hi David. Can you please describe in more details how your network is set up? Are the two computers connected through a domain server? Is your database split? If so, where is the data file located?

  • Good questions.  I new I had left something out.

The data file is stored on a Network Drive that is accessible as a Lettered drive with the same letter on both computers.

Domain Server- I don't know.  How can I tell?  I'm not really a network guy.

Database Split- I don't know.  How can I tell?

    I hope this helps.

  • Hi David. Thanks for the additional information. For example, when you say "network drive," is this computer/server used only to store files? By domain, I mean, do you log into your company computers and get authenticated by a server, which allows you to log in to any computer connected to the same domain? By split, it means each user should have their own copy of the front end, and all front ends are connected to the same back end data file.
