Is there any way to hide Word's splash screen when starting Word? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm writing a program that uses Word to accomplish tasks with documents. The program has to start Word, but I don't want the splash screen to show. Any way to do that?

  • You can permanently turn off the splash screen from the options.

  • Thanks for trying, but the thing you're pointing to does not involved the splash screen. That's the start screen. I already turned that off, but the splash screen still comes up.

  • If you are starting Word using COM automation, which is what I think of as the @typical@ way to start Word programmatically, the Splash screen should not display anyway (at least on Windows).

For example you might do that in VBA using

    Dim w as Word.Application

    Set w = CreateObject("Word.Application")
    'or
    'Set w = New Word.Application

If you need to start Word using the shell for example, then you should be able to use the /q switch, e.g.

    winword /q
