Database size limitations for 2007 exchange no sp RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been reading up on the size limitations for the database in the first storage group of artifical limit of 50GB

We are not planning on adding the SP1 in the near future and the size of our database in the first storage group is 90.2GB.

Am I to be worried about this?  What damage can it cause if any?   We did not upgrade from 2003 to 2007 Exchange.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Database is already crossed the limit of 50GB so you would have already changed the registry to increase the size or you are using Enterpriser edition of Exchange since this is the case of Standard edition only.

How to Modify a Database Size Limit

Exchange Server 2007 Editions and Client Access Licenses

90GB is not a big in size to harm anything and Exchange 2007 supports unlimited size of database, however Microsoft recommends to keep the size of database to 100GB (if you don't use LCR/CCR and with any kind of continuous replication upto 200GB) for faster recovery.

    Mailbox Server Storage Design

So you may need to limit the size of database by controlling the size of mailboxes (apply mailbox quota) and create additional storage group & database for new users to stop growing existing database over 100GB.

BTW to discuss Exchange Server related issue, suggest you to use Exchange forums on TechNet to get faster responses :)

  •  Thank you for the quick response, when I follow the directions, the MiscrosoftExchange IS is not there.  Does SP1 need to be installed first or how do I add it.

    Appreciate your help.

  • Hello,

Are you using Exchange 2007 Standard edition?

No, behiviour is same for both RTM & SP1 and there is NOT any change in database size limit in SP1, like we have had in Exchange 2003 SP2.

  • Greetings,
This forum is dedicated to the Exchange Open Specification documents. This thread is off-topic and needs to move off this forum.

I suggest this is a better forum for this discussion: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/threads/

    Thanks.
