how do I create calculated column to group the data and has customized name? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a sql table like A( Customer,Industry,revenue)

    customer  industry revenue
    microsoft tech 100M
    VM CARS 50M
    HONDA BIKES 10M
    ADOBE TECH 20M

I am using industry as a slicer. I want to group Industry types and put my own names.

for example I want a new slicer with a calculated column as a slicer.

    If Industry( car,bikes) then automotive

    If Industry (tech) then    software

    customer  industry revenue calculate_cluster
    microsoft tech 100M software
    VM CARS 50M automotive
    HONDA BIKES 10M automotive
    ADOBE TECH 20M software

Can some one help me how to do this? I want to use Industry & calculated_cluser both as slicers.

  • To solve this scenario I created another table called Groups( Industry, cluster)

and built data model by craeting relationship between table A and Groups based on matching column Industry.

Then I was able to use cluster field as a slicer.
