WinDbg: Access violation - code c0000005 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a ASP.NET application running on x64 Windows 2008 Standard  server (Japanese install). The system is barely consuming resources but IIS crashes intermittently with "Access violation - code c0000005". Collected a couple of full memory dumps and both have the same exception recorded. Subsequent mini-dumps generates the same exception but clr or native different stack

In the full memory dump, ran

dumped all the threads and the objects on each thread; saw 2 strings that are around 3.8G

    RSP:1e0aba38: sizeof(000000001e0ac110) = 4,024,556,440 ( 0xefe1db98) bytes (System.String)
    RSP:1e0abdf8: sizeof(000000001e0ac1a0) = 4,026,251,440 (  0xeffbb8b0) bytes (System.String)

Running dumpobject on these memory location returns the same c0000005 error code.

I was able to trace back the end user process from the thread but same condition cannot be recreated in anothe Windows 2008 JP server. Any suggestions or thoughts will be helpful.

  • Opened a support call; running a new dump command instead

    adplus.vbs -crash -NoDumpOnFirst -p <PID> -o <OUTPUT PATH>
