Multiple Azure Files RW Access RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are in the process of deploying WVD and it needs to run an application from a network drive. We are using Azure Files, mounting it during login and launching the application. This is working flawlessly when the WVD host and Azure Files are in the same region.

For high availability reason we want to run multiple WVD hosts in different regions to protect against regional outages. The problem we're facing is when we try to run the same application off the Azure Files in a different region.

WVD in East 2 and Azure Files in East 2: No issues

WVD in Central and Azure Files in East 2: Slow performance

The application share needs to be in sync for the application to work properly regardless of login location and needs to be readable and writable in every location, so RA-GRS wont work. Currently we solve this via DFS-R on-prem across multiple locations.

I would like to know if anyone has any options, other than running a Windows File server in each region and using DFS-R. Azure File Sync does not appear to allow multiple Azure Files shares.

  • Thanks for reaching out dwclarkNU1.

Can you please send a mail to AzureFiles@microsoft.com? I'd like to collect some details about your subscription so we can figure out what's going on, and obviously this shouldn't be shared publicly.
