Many-to-many data entry screen RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can anyone supply me with links to any articles that would help me design a Winfdows Forms data entry screen which includes a many-to-many link table?

I have table 'A' and table 'B' and table 'LinkAB' which is the two IDs.

I will have table A on the form as a single record with navigation buttons and table B automagically displaying related records in an adjacant Grid. Users must be able to add/delete from the grid. Entries in the Grid are from a lookup table, so the ability to recognise a DataGrid entry that doesn't exist yet would be useful so it can prompt to add a record to table B.

I am not using LINQ for this project, and I'll be doing it all in ADO.NET 2.0 in C#, SQL Server 2005 back end.

    Any help appreciated.

  • What would be the best practise from a practical standpoint:

Define the relationships at the SQL Server table level, PK/FK,

Define the relationships in SQL Server Views, or

Define the relationships in the Dataset (assuming this is possible).

    Any help appreciated.

  • Could someone recommend the most appropriate Microsoft publication (book) that would teach specifically how to databind winforms controls to two tables linked by a many-to-many link table? I have the Core Reference, I could use a more advanced book that covers this.
