VS 11 Beta Install problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • Steps to reproduce:

1- Start VS 11 Ultimate install from the web http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/11/en-us/downloads

2 - Install indicates it will need 9+ GB to install (OUCH!). Did it anyway.
3 - Install hangs on last tiny bit for a LONG time on ultimate_finalizer section. Finally fails saying install completed except for something it could complete (sorry lost that part).

4 - Don't trust the install and didn't want bad usage results. Decide to clean up and try install again. Read webpage above again. Says that upgrade path from Developer Preview is not supported (which contradicts what I had been told previously).

5 - Decide to uninstall VS11 Beta and VS11 Dev Prev. by first uninstalling VS11 Betat from Add/Remove.
Uninstall completes, but other items for VS11 Beta in Add/Remove will not uninstall.

    6- Uninstall VS11 Dev. Prev.
Uninstall completes, but but other items for VS11 Dev Prev. in Add/Remove will not uninstall. (like Pre-Clean Tool, Lang Pack-ENU)

7 - Start VS 11 Beta install again. Says it will only neec 3+ GB this time (??? Scary !! What just happened? Why not 9gb?)

8 - Install completes, but with these messages:

    Setup Completed.
However, not all features installed correctly.

!Windows Software Development Kit Redistributables Package failed.

....I'm worried I'm in some kind of hosed state now.

Logs has this (not sure if related...but is the only instance of "error" in the log:

  • Hi russweb, it looks like as you were using the web installer to download VS 11 Ultimate Beta, there were some components that failed to download, hence the errors you see from the logs you posted.

I recommend that you download the ISO image file instead from http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/11/en-us/downloads#ultimate. Please choose the "DVD5 ISO Image file", and once the download has completed, please verify the image file's checksum using a third party tool (eg: HashCheck) with the checksums below just to be sure that the ISO is not corrupted.

    File: VS11_BETA_ULT_ENU.iso
    CRC-32: d914b405
    MD4: 7d2d3456d13248fb413e454ce5abcd22
    MD5: c27e20f56fc2c8e1f53744e7705306e5
