C# Import/Export to Outlook Calendar? RRS feed

  • Question

  • This may be in the wrong category (sorry if so). There's been some talk of using Visual Studio and C# to send data to and from Outlook. Since Exchange came out and all the hype about "the cloud" I've lost track of how stuff like that goes. The data I'd be exporting to it would involve dates/times and text, presumably the same.  Source going to outlook is either an Access or SQL database, only definitive I have right now on that part.

What's a good starting point to get into this?  I'm not sure if I should look for the database because the calendar is there or how it works.  Any links or tips?  Never really done anything with Outlook as far as development before so general noob advice would probably be good too.

  • Hi psifreak,

    >> C# Import/Export to Outlook Calendar

Which file type you want to import/export, ics or csv? I found a helpful link below which could manually import/export calendar. But, after I check the Outlook API, it seems there is no such APIs.

    # Make a backup copy of the calendar
    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Make-a-backup-copy-of-the-calendar-ea7db500-74e8-4444-8458-7ed1f4dffce3

It seems we could not achieve this function directly with APIs. For another way, we would suggest you use Folder.GetTable method to get the contents of Calendar Folder.

    # Folder.GetTable Method (Outlook)
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/EN-US/library/office/ff860692.aspx

And, you could use Items.Add to create new Calendar Items in Calendar folders.
    # Items.Add Method (Outlook)
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/EN-US/library/office/ff861028.aspx

    Best Regards,

    Edward

  • Thanks Edward! I've been assigned to a different task for now, so I'll have to dig on it later. But the basic description I was given is "send items to the outlook calendar" and later added "possibly between calendars" which made little sense to me at that moment.  It was left quite open ended from there...so I'm not 100% on how to answer some of your questions.
