.Net Framework issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • So here is the issue. I've spent months with support with the program I'm trying to install and they referred me to here since apparently my .Net framework is having problems. What I am trying to do is intall a program that runs on .net 3.5.1, and it fails in the same spot every time. I have tried basically everything from removing and reinstalling all .Net software, enabling and disabling it, running the .net repair tool, all of which lead to nowhere.

    What happens is:
    1. I will run the install file, accept the EULA
    2. It will attempt to download and install the .Net profile
    3. A small window pops up saying "verifying application requirements"
    4. Then gives the error "Application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor." and gives me the option to save an error file.

What should happen (obviously) is that it installs the profile successfully and lets me continue with the install. I have, if needed, a mini-box report of my machine, the .net repair tool logfile, the logfile of the failed install, and the program itself.

  • Thanks for the answers. As your Windows version is 8.1, .NET 3.5 is an integral part of your OS. That is why you cannot install or remove it yourself.

Further, the verification test run indicated that .NET 3.5 is installed and configured correctly on your system. You can double-check by looking at your installed features list (Control Panel->Programs and Features->Turn Windows Features On and Off...

Find .NET 3.5 in your Installed Features list and ensure that there is either a black square or a checkmark in the box next to it.

If not, use the techniques in this article to activate your .NET 3.5:

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443(v=vs.110).aspx

If, after the above, you still cannot install Curse Client v5 (which, I note, was realized in June, 2012, prior to the release of Windows 8), you will need to get help from Curse Support:

    http://support.curse.com/home

When you contact them, please make sure they know you have Windows 8.1, and the testing and analysis you've done, showing that .NET 3.5 is properly installed on your system.

Good luck! If you have further questions about .NET, please post back here and we will be happy to try to help.

  • In order to address your issue and determine if, in fact, there is an issue with an installed .NET Framework on your system, we need additional details from you:

    1. What is your Windows version? This is very important as .NET 3.5.1 is user installed on some Windows versions, embedded in and automatically installed in some Windows versions, and embedded in, but not automatically installed in some Windows versions. Therefore, procedures for resolving your .NET 3.5 issue are very different depending on Windows version.

    2. What is the application that fails to install? Title, version and publisher, please.

    3. Please use this tool to determine the status of .NET Framework 3.5 on your system:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx

Run the tool with .NET 3.5 selected, then post the firat 15 lines AND the last 15 lines of the tool log here.
