Running Kernel Mode Driver in Windows 7. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have followed the microsoft link to create a sample helloworld kernel mode driver using Visual studio 2015.

The debugging was successful and .sys file is created.

But how to run this driver or start service with these files?

    I am using a windows 7 (32 bit) machine.

Please help me to run this driver.

  • You will need to create an INF file, which is the link between a piece of hardware and the driver to load for it. For drivers without hardware, an INF file is still the recommended way. You can find information on INF files here. I wrote a tutorial that describes INF files here. Once you have created your INF file, you can use DevCon (part of the WDK) to load your driver, which is described here
