Creating new SQL Server 2005 database in VS 2005 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,
I created a new Project type in VS 2005 with Windows Application. I am trying to Add New Item--Sql Database, but I get an error:

Connections to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly.

I do not have SQL Server Express 2005 installed, but have SQL Server 2005 Development version. Do I need Express also? I also tried going in VS to Options--Database Tools--Data Connections and changed the Instance name but I am still getting the same message.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

  • Hi,

create your Database on the SQL-Server and add a dataset to your project. To add a database, means to add a SQL-Server Express Database-File to the project (after that a dataset will also be added...). In other words: no need to add a database.
