WDS unattended installation error message. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I seem to be encountering an error.. When I'm not running unattended the installation works fine, but as soon as I hook up the unattened answer file i get the "Windows setup could not process the <DistributionShare> setting in the unattended answer file".

I've been banging my head against the wall for a couple of days now.

I've followed online tutorials on how to set things up.

    Here's my unattened answer file:

I've left out the Domain, password and usernames ofc. I really hope somebody can point towards what's wrong with the setup since I have no idea at the moment :/

I've tried leaving out the <DistributionShare> tag all together since I tought the Image selection was enough but I still get the same error.

Does anybody know what I might be doing wrong? Any help would be much appriciated!

    Thanks,

    Simon

  • I've replaced the boot image which was an windows 7 embedded, with a standard windows 7 boot image.. It seems the embedded boot image required that the installation was done from a distributionshare.. Works just fine using the normal windows 7 boot image.

  • To use the unattended thing, you need to use

tools > create media > create ibw from answerfile

then dump that onto bootable media and fire it up. Any other way is just asking for having your head chomped by weird errors.

(You also need to buy Sean Liming's book, lots of time saving experience in there.)
