Write from PowerPivot RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have this goal: writing from PowerPivot to the source SQL db. I have read that the write-back functionality is not supported and generally a pure BI tool doesn't allow to write back. In practice, a similar function it is a good thing. Does exist any workarounds? In this case, I think that the data are input by an Excel sheet and writed directly on the source db.

This could be an interesting and general discussion.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

if you can get data from a PivotTable, you can then make a simple VBA subroutine to write this data back via ADO.

But frankly, I see no sense in such actions.

  • Why not? Some BI tools allow to write on the data source. For this feature, these tools could be evaluate as tool for the performance management market. Think a controller that sees the actual data with a powerpivot workbook and wants to consolidate them by an action inside Excel environment.

    Thanks

  • No, because the write-back feature for PowerPivot doesn't exist. What a pity!
