    Office 2007/2010 changed file formats AND charting engines, so things may well tend to work a bit differently. It's been a long time since I wrote that article and I don't have time to re-read it right now, but...

    Try copying the chart in Excel then using Insert/Paste/Paste Special in Word. Activate the "link" radio button then paste. Press Alt+F9 to see what kind of syntax Word 2007 wants to use for this.

    Note: choose the "Microsoft Excel Chart Object" entry in the list of types.
