Bing Geocoding keeps on returning random wierd errors RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I've been using bing maps' geocoding service with below URL for quite some time now

    http://dev.virtualearth.net/REST/v1/Locations?

Today morning it suddenly started throwing weird errors ! Sometimes it gives 407 Proxy Authentication error, sometimes it gives 401 Unauthorized error & sometimes it gives 400 Bad request error ! This error is random and sometimes it works just fine !

Any idea why this could happen ?

  • It sounds like you are either using special characters without escaping them. This can cause the URL to become invalid. If using JavaScript, wrap your input text with escapeURIComponent. This is documented as a best practice here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn894107.aspx

It is also possible that your account is being rate limited. If you are using a basic bing Maps key, it can be rate limited when it either makes a lot of requests in a short period of time, or when the servers are under a lot of load. This is done to ensure that basic account users don't cause any issues for licensed Enterprise account users.
