Virtual memory Low. How to free it up RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a CE device that reports running low on Virtual Memory. I do not have access to the code as I am the end user. A solution given from the vendor was to set a script to reboot the device out of trading hours. However this constant rebooting means that devices fail after a period of time.

My question is: Is there a way of resetting or freeing up virtual memory without a recycle of the device?

    Thanks in advance

  • It isn't so much that you are low on virtual memory, as you have an application or driver that is using too much virtual memory.

So, if you can determine that it is an application and then which application is using the address space, then you could shutdown the application.

If it is a driver, that gets way more complicated.

If all else fails, reboot the system.

I am not sure what you mean by "However this constant rebooting means that devices fail after a period of time." why would this cause them to fail?

  • Virtual memory is quite cheap these days on eBay! ;-)

    Good luck,
