Build a custom context menu item of Outlook Add-in RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I'm playing on a custom context menu item of outlook add-in. (In a new mail page, right click mouse, then select this custom context menu item). I'm using VS2012 and Outlook 2010 add-in template. Is that possible to make it support outlook 2010 and 2013? Can anyone share code with me. I have searched this topic on Internet for several days, but didn't get any satisfy answers so far. Hope you could help me on this. Thanks.

  • Just embed the Outlook 2010 PIA with Framework 4 or later and as long as you don't use any methods/properties/events not exposed in Outlook 2010 your code should run without any problems in 2013.

You can also check the Outlook version at runtime and use any 2013 methods or properties using either dynamic objects or reflection.

  • I don't have sample code for what you're specifically looking for, but there are sample COM addins from MS that show working with context menus in Outlook 2010. It's the same for 2013. Look for the COM addin samples for Outlook 2010 at the Office Developer Web site at MSDN.
