Can I uninstall SQL Server componenents from VS Community 2015? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm running VS2015 and beginning to learn UWP. However, I'm about to be VERY pressed for storage. I was wondering if I can remove the SQL components that came installed with VS. I've never needed to use them when I was programming Windows forms with visual basic. Will VS still be running smoothly with them missing as I don't use SQL?

    Cheers!

  • Hi David98xp,

From your description, you want to remove SQL Server Express that gets installed with Visual Studio 2015, right? If so, you can uninstall  SQL Server Express from Programs and Features as you don’t develop with any SQL components or you don’t access any SQL databases. Visual Studio 2015 will run smoothly after uninstalling SQL Server Express.

However,  to be safe, I recommend you stop SQL Server Express service for a period of time to make sure that nothing you have is relying on it before uninstalling SQL Server Express.

    Thanks,
