Windows 7 install a new .NET 3.5 SP1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

After installed Windows 7 I saw that .NET 3.5 SP1 doesn't have the same file version from any Microsoft links.

If I download .NET 3.5 SP1 from any Microsoft link its install system.data.entity (3.5.30729.1 ) BUT Windows 7 install (file version is 3.5.30729.4926 ).

This "new" version have news features for Entity Framework that only exists in EF 4.0 Beta.

    See more informations : http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/adodotnetentityframework/thread/b8d35b5b-a2d1-4259-8cdd-464ceb05a772/

  • Hi Alexnaldo,

    Thank you for your post.

For Windows 7, .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1 is shipped with it as one of OS component.
For .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1, it includes .NET 2.0 with SP2 and .NET 3.0 with SP2 as prerequisite.
They are OS components. Thus, we don't need to manually install it. .NET 3.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 can be added or removed via the Programs and Features control panel.

I've checked XP machine, Server 2003 machine, Server 2008 machine with .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, the version of system.data.entity.dll is 3.5.30729.1. However, on Windows 7, the version is 3.5.30729.4926. As OS components, you have the .NET Framework 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 plus a few post 3.5 SP1 bug fixes on Windows 7. These fixes are specific for Windows 7. I think that it's the reason we can find the version is a bit different on Windows 7.

Hope this helps! If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.
