Site Column in new site definition RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm starting to work on a Site Definition. I would like this new site to use an existing site column.

What is the best practice to use this predefined site column in the new site definition?

I would like to avoid harcoding column ID, or column name, because if I create the same column in another server the ID will be different, and also the name can be changed in the future. How can I keep my site definition reusable?

    Thank you for your tips,
    JC

  • Column name once assigned is stored as InternalName property which does not gets changed even if you rename the column name.
