Can Not Get Intellisense to Work with XAML on VS 2015

    Question

  • I'm just starting with integrating XAML into my C# development and I can't seem to get intellisense to work.

I did a fresh install of visual community 2015, installed "Enable XAML Language for Xamarin.Forms" and I still get the default popup that only has !-- etc.. I've also included all my version numbers and plugins. Any help would be appreciated.

  • It's not allowing me to add a screenshot until I verify my account (which I thought I did by clicking on the link in my email...)

    I'm working on a C# -> Cross Platform -> Xamarin.Forms.Portable

The intellisense for the C# project works, and I checked the option window and what you pointed out is checked.

When I try to re-create what you did I went to new project -> Windows -> Universal -> Blank App

Then I tried typing "<bu" in the xaml page like you and it gave me a list but not the same list you have my list included (!--, ![CDATA[, #endregion, #region, ?, /Application, Application, local, and x)

  • Hi Adam.

    Thank you for your post.

About how to verify your account, please ask for a requirement in the following link:

    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/910ceecf-e32a-41d3-9b6b-5a9a1ec6c59d/verify-your-account-33?forum=reportabug

I also build a C# Xamarin.Forms.Portable project and find the intellisense on my side works fine, please see the screenshot:

In this situation, you may take a look at the following thread, some members have faced similar issue as yours:

    https://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/55940/intellisense-issues-with-xaml-based-views-in-pcl-using-any-version-xamarin-forms-1-4

Or I suggest you go to Xamarin forum for dedicated support:

  • I posted in the verification thread, hopefully it will let me screenshot soon, in the meantime I have a blog post that is an example of my issue.

    http://www.cazzulino.com/enable-xaml-forms-intellisense.html

I've done everything in the post but it still shows up like the XML Language Service instead of the XAML language service which causes the list to not populate.

Does anyone know how to get around that?

  • I also see the same symptoms as in this post but I'm not using the resharper:

  • Hi Adam,

Currently, we couldn't reproduce your issue, and since Our forum is discussing about VS general question like how to set/configure Visual Studio and Visual Studio tools.

As your question is about Xamarin project configuration, I still suggest you go to https://forums.xamarin.com/ for dedicated support.

    Thank you for your understanding,

  • These two links fixed the problem for me with a workaround in selecting the editor manually.
